Harlequin Harriers Running Club

Harlequin Harriers (HQH) was formed in 1977 and is one of the oldest Running Clubs in Pretoria.

HQH is a sub-club of the parent Harlequin Club which was established as a hockey and rugby club in Groenkloof in 1903. The multi-coloured ‘quartered’ colours of the club are world-renowned through the direct link to London Harlequins, the English Rugby Club residing alongside Twickenham at “The Stoop”.

The character of the club is one where the balance of competitive sporting participation and social participation is accommodated in a spirit of fostering encouragement to all members. The club emphatically accommodates runners of all aptitudes in its activities. Family members are encouraged to participate or support in all activities.

Membership of Harlequin Harriers includes access to the changerooms, bar, lounge, and general facilities of the Geoff Hesse Clubhouse.

The Geoff Hesse Clubhouse is the home of Harlequin Harriers on the Harlequin Club Grounds.

The club is run by a committee, elected at an AGM, who voluntarily provide their services throughout the year to co-ordinate the proceedings and activities of the club.  Sub-committees are often appointed to handle separate functions or events.

Harriers have a proud tradition of sporting achievements in the national road-running fraternity and are registered with Athletics South Africa (ASA) through the Athletics Gauteng North (AGN) provincial body.

Harrier Events

Weekly time-trials take place from the Harlequin Club on Thursday evenings.

Our clubnight function happens once a month on a Thursday after the time-trial.

After most Pretoria running races, you will find us under our club gazebo having a snack and drink.

We also host other club runs, as well as a Christmas lights run.

Fees

The annual membership fees to join the club are made up as follows:

Main Harlequin Club dues, Harlequin Harrier dues, and AGN/ASA licence number dues.

Membership fees are due at the beginning of the calendar year, and are expected to be paid prior to runners applying for their annual AGN licence numbers to facilitate participation in road-running events.

Please contact us for more details regarding fees.
